ABOUT US

Making our region more prosperous, sustainable and fairer

East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) was formed in March 2024. We’re led by an elected Mayor and cover the four local authority areas of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Derby and Nottingham.

Our ambition is to harness the potential of our region, by working alongside partners and local authorities to make the East Midlands the best place to live, to work and to learn.

Our priorities

Transport - Working closely with the local authorities in the region our goal is to merge transport plans and create a single transport strategy for the whole region, making it easier to travel by bus, rail and road.

Housing - With an annual budget of over £16.8 million secured for brownfield land regeneration under the Department for Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities (DLUHC) and Homes England, our aim is to deliver up to 1,400 high-quality affordable new homes by March 2026.

Skills and Adult Education - A key part of devolution means taking over responsibility of key programmes such as the Adult Skills Fund, working with key stakeholders and local partners to develop tailored training programmes to ensure residents have access to a wealth of opportunities to improve their personal and professional growth and achieve their full earning potential by removing barriers to better paid work.

Net Zero - We have made a commitment to help tackle the climate emergency. Our journey to Net Zero will see us become carbon neutral by 2050 aligning with national ambitions and taking the region on a journey to become cleaner, more sustainable with improved green spaces and increased bio-diversity.

Economic development - With access to over £4 billion of funding for the region over the next 30 years, our goal is to transform our regional economy. We aim to attract more investment to the historically under-funded East Midlands, in order to strengthen the local economy and improve the area for residents.

Visitor economy - Boosting tourism and putting the East Midlands on the map to celebrate our region's heritage, as part of a new cultural strategy. We want to support and invest in our local businesses, drive economic growth to the region by making the East Midlands a great place to visit.
