What is the Combined Authority?
At the Combined Authority, our aim is to ensure that everyone benefits from the decisions we make. We want to create an environment which allows our economy to thrive for the good of everyone who lives and works in Liverpool City Region.
We work together to make investments in areas that have a real impact on our communities, such as transport, employment, culture, digital and housing. By using the devolved powers we have, we can make a real and meaningful difference to the lives of the people living and working in the area.
The Combined Authority is led by Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram and brings together Liverpool City Region’s six local authorities – Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Wirral – to tackle the big issues that matter to us all, together.
What are the benefits of the Combined Authority?
Working closely together across our local authorities means that we can improve our communities and make our city region somewhere we can all be proud of.
We have already seen the benefits that our work has produced, having invested £400 million in schemes to:
Create jobs and apprenticeships
Make it easier to travel in and around the city region
Renovate and improve schools and colleges
Help long-term unemployed families back into work
Support cultural events, such as the return of the Giants
What is Devolution?
We believe that our communities are best placed to make decisions about the things that matter to us. Devolution is one of the most fundamental changes to the way decisions are made for local areas and how public services are funded.
Without devolution, decisions will continue to be made in Westminster, removed from communities that they affect, which simply doesn’t help to grow the economy.
Now, that we have some powers through devolution, we are beginning to show what we can do.
