About May Walters

May Walters is a boutique search consultancy specialising in senior positions within the environment and engineering sector.

The Client

An opportunity has arisen with our client, to acquire an individual to perform a senior role within the business and develop a growing highways engineering division.

Our client is a rapidly expanding multidisciplinary engineering lead consultancy.

Established from an MBO just over 10 years ago, they employed 10 people working from a single site, today they now employ 300 staff, operating from 6 UK offices and during this time they have grown their turnover from £1 million to exceeding £20million today.

Our client specialises in delivery of civil and structural engineering, building services and geo-environmental consulting services, to the market sectors of residential, commercial and infrastructure.  Over the last 10 years they have grown via targeted acquisition of niche consultancies, who have robust client relationships and who employ credible engineers.  Their offices now cover the UK from London through to Scotland.  A recent substantial investment by an equity partner has enabled the business plan to include options for more acquisitions in addition to hiring individuals key individuals within the market, to ensure each service line is represented across the UK such that the forecast for growth for next year is to double the current turnover.

The Birmingham office has more than doubled its turnover within the last few years, experiencing one of the highest growth throughout the group.  Having gained prestigious new offices within the centre of Birmingham, they have established civil, structural and geoenvironmental service lines and an established highways division which leads the UK in this discipline and will be the focus for much of the available resource for future development.

Increased client demand and a restructuring in preparation for growth has lead to the opportunity to add an Associate Director, to develop and mentor within the highways team, to deliver projects to a satisfactory standard and develop client relationships.

The Individual

The successful individual will have a track record of delivering civil engineering solutions, specifically within the design of highways and drainage. A knowledge of design in S38/S278 and private works would be required, additional to a knowledge of the industry and ability to have commercial conversations within the arena.

A desire to progress and enthusiasm in this career is paramount and in this regard, applications are welcomed from less senior individuals who are looking to carve a good profile within the industry.

In return, a competitive package will be offered, which could include generous bonuses and equity for the right individual.

Our client retains a small company culture and is keen to continue this as they continue to grow.  The culture is empowered and autonomous and there is a buzz and excitement about the growth.  The company also has a focus on work/life balance and will provide time off in lieu to offset any overtime worked.

Applications are encouraged from individuals who would value being a part of this and have the desire to make their mark in the industry.
