Gaia client is one of Ireland’s largest Irish-owned consultants with centers of excellence in Environmental Science, Civil Infrastructure, Waste & Resource Management, and Energy and Planning.

Gaia is looking to recruit a Principal Environmental Scientist who will work as an integral member of the Environmental Science team in either the Cork, Dublin, or Carlow office, aiding the expansion of the environmental business and working closely with fellow professionals.  

This position offers exposure to a broad range of areas within the environmental sectors, including but not limited to, planning and EIAR, waste management, infrastructure development, waste licensing and permits, industrial emissions licensing, and environmental due diligence.

Main responsibilities:
  • Leading and managing a project team reporting to a Director
  • Project management of Environmental Impact Assessments, Strategic Environmental Assessments, Appropriate Assessments, planning application documentation, and other environmental reports
  • Provide expert environmental technical assistance to the business
  • Actively participate in the delivery of business development initiatives
  • Manage the implementation of regulatory approvals
Skills and qualifications:
  • Educated to a degree level in a relevant environmental discipline
  • A minimum of 12-15 years post-graduate experience in an environmental position
  • Chartered status in relevant discipline
  • Excellent knowledge of planning, environmental, and waste management legislation
  • Proven track record in project management and delivery of Environmental Impact Assessment Reports, planning, and license/permit applications for a wide range of projects
  • Team and client management experience essential
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Be flexible and a good team player
  • Excellent report writing and technical reviewing skills
  • Experience in engaging with external stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and sub-contractors
  • A full driver's license
