Senior Project Ecologist

Fehily Timoney and Company (FT) is one of Ireland’s largest indigenous consultancies specialising in Sustainable Infrastructure, Circular Economy, Environment, Energy and Renewables. 

FT delivers ecology consultancy services to both public and private sector clients. We provide these services in-house across all our projects, as well as externally through tailored consultancy offerings directly to our clients. Our expertise spans a wide range of sectors, including renewable energy projects (both onshore and offshore), residential and commercial developments, large-scale infrastructure such as roads and greenways, and electrical infrastructure.

FT is seeking to hire a Senior Project Ecologist to join the Energy and Planning team in our Cork, Dublin or Carlow offices. This role will support the growth of the Energy and Planning business while collaborating  closely with other  professionals. Ideal candidates will have at least five years of experience. This position provides exposure to a diverse range of projects across renewable energy, circular economy, environmental, and sustainable infrastructure sectors. With a wide portfolio on ongoing projects, FT offers the successful candidate a clear pathway for career progression.

What would my main responsibilities be in this role?

• Managing individual contracts to ensure the delivery of high-quality ecological consultancy services 
• Delivering expert ecological input across a wide range of projects
• Planning, executing and supervising site-based ecological surveys and fieldwork
• Preparing and overseeing the implementation of Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs)
• Carrying out Appropriate Assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), Biodiversity Chapters for Environmental Impact Assessment Reports (EIARs) and other required environmental documentation
• Producing high-standard technical reports and other project deliverables
• Ensuring high quality control through  attention to detail, timely delivery, and a commitment to maintaining and enhancing  the quality of work produced by the Ecology Team
• Acting as an expert witness during Oral Hearings when required
• Building and maintaining client relationships, including participation in clients and design team meetings as needed

Am I the right person for the role?

• Degree in ecology or closely related discipline 
• Minimum of five years’ post graduate experience 
• Experience in environmental consultancy is advantageous
• Member of CIEEM, CIWEM or an equivalent professional organisation
• Strong understanding of Irish wildlife and conservation legislation 
• Proven ability in producing high-quality technical reports
• Experience in preparing Appropriate Assessments and Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs)
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
• Excellent communication, organisational and project management skills
• Full, clean driving licence
